Hackers Shutdown Comcast.net For Hours

Hackers targeted Internet service provider Comcast Wednesday and shut the site down for nearly five hours preventing the company’s 14 million subscribers from accessing e-mail, news, and technical support though the ISP's Web site. Comcast restored access to its site early Thursday.
According to reports hackers gained access to Comcast's Internet registration account at Network Solutions and changed configured Comcast's site to forward visitors to Comcast.net to visit an alternate Web site that displayed the message: "KRYOGENICS Defiant and EBK RoXed Comcast. sHouTz to VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven." .

Alleged Hackers Take Credit
Comcast issued a statement to The Denver Post: "While that issue has been resolved and customers have continued to have access to the Internet and e-mail through services like Outlook, some customers are currently not able to access Comcast.net or Webmail. Network engineers are working to resolve the issue."
Was Comcast Warned of the Attack?
Wired News is reporting it conducted a phone interview with the alleged hackers "Defiant" and "EBK." The alleged hackers claim that they tried to first warn Comcast about a vulnerability in Comcast's network that would allow them to take down their site. When Comcast ignored the warning hackers then decided to completely shut down the Comcast.net site, according to Wired News.
The hacker pair also claim however that outrage at Comcast has nothing to do with Comcast's shaky past with P2P service BitTorrent. "Comcast is just a huge corporation, and we wanted to take them out, and we did," said Defiant to Wired News.
Both Comcast and the alleged hackers interviewed by Wired News say no personal information was taken from any Comcast subscribers in the attack..
